Rateče
The villlage of Rateče is situated at an altitude of 870 m, not far from the source of he river Sava Dolinka, in one of the most beautiful parts of the Alps close to the borders with both Italy and Austria. This pleasant Alpine village is surrounded by magnificent mountains of Jalovec (2643 m), Visoka Ponca (2272 m) and Mojstrovka (2332 m), green woods and meadows thus offering ,with its extremely favourable Alpine climate and unspoiled nature, splendour for the spirit and activity for the body.
Peace and tranquility await those who have decided to spend their time on the forest trails to Kranjska Gora, to the Planica and Tamar valley and the Nadiža waterfall, to the Mangart lakes or to the Three Countries Border. Rateče is also the starting point for the extreme mountaineering and climbing in the Julian Alps. Well marked bike trail leads westward to the Mangart Lakes in Italy or in the opposite direction to Gozd Martuljek
Planica is the cradle of ski jumping and ski flying, where man for the first time in history surpassed 100 m (Sepp Bradl – 101 m in 1936) and 200 m (Toni Niemenen – 203 m in 1994). It is renowned for yearly Ski Jumping Championship when many admirers, mostly Slovenes, gather in Planica.
Favourable winter conditions, excellent cross- country trails from Rateče to Planica and further on to Tamar valley and then back to Kranjska Gora are paradise for cross- country skiers. And the vicinity of well known ski resorts attracts skiing enthusiasts.
